Downsizing for Seniors: Assembling the TEAM

June 1, 2016 - Updated: June 5, 2016

Downsizing for Seniors: Assembling the “TEAM”

We looked at the definition of “seniors” and concluded that we required two elements: 1) some kind of age related issue, and 2) a lack of independence. Otherwise, we are simply dealing with ordinary people who have a little more “experience”.

So, the question really is: who do we need to help out?

There are essentially four categories here: financial, physical, transportation (mobility) and home care.

Wealth Management

·        Lawyer

·        Financial advisor

·        Tax advisor

·        Accountant

·        Bookkeeper

·        Investment Counsellor

·        Stockbroker

·        Mutual Fund Sales Representative

·        Bank Manager

·        Mortgage Broker

·        Life Insurance Sales Representative

·        Insurance Broker

·        Attorney (POA)

Health Management

·        Doctor - family physician

·        Specialists

·        Nurse

·        Health practitioner

·        Chiropractor

·        Naturopath

·        Dentist

·        Community Support Social Worker

·        Urgent Care facility

·        Hospital

·        Attorney (POA)

Transportation and Mobility

·        Friends, family

·        Taxis, wheelchair

·        Assisted devices

Home Care

·        Personal care worker

·        Food services

·        Interior maintenance

·        Exterior maintenance

This list will not apply to everyone, but it does give some idea of the various roles that must be undertaken and filled for most seniors.

As a senior advances, they are likely to require more assistance with basic tasks which they otherwise could have performed themselves.
