Real Estate Education Series
As many of you know, the continuing education requirements for real estate agents has been changed by RECO, the governing body. This has caused havoc among real estate boards and education providers.
Real estate boards have met with low turnouts and have cancelled many programs.
Some Brokerages are often more interested in a lunch and learn presentation than a real 3 hour seminar. I'm happy to have the free lunch and I can always use another soapstone carving to add to my collection. But, here’s the problem, I don’t have anything to sell at the seminar, no trinkets, no tapes, no CD’s, no books. There's no upside for me, so, I turn down a lot of "events". However, I’m going to have to turn that financial model around.
Some online providers have offered deep discounts for their existing courses and in all likelihood will not be producing any other educational programs. The existing system doesn’t work. Yet, there seems to be quite the demand for CLASSROOM instruction. Did I tell you that I have 20 courses already?
I’m looking for people who want to learn and are prepared to pay for that knowledge and experience.
I have spoken to Nelson Goulart of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Signature Service and I will host a series of 12 three hour seminars in his central Mississauga office (186 Robert Speck Parkway, L4Z 3G1) in the Fall.
The first seminar will be on the “Laws of Disclosure” and carry 3 RECO credits (not that anyone should care anymore). This program will be FREE! But, there still be will a cost. I need testimonials from the profession. I need to be able to post them with your name attached on the internet. They won’t take long, just a line or two, so that I can use them in future promotions. Dates and times have not been set.
The following topics will be covered in the series:
- Disclosure Laws and the Use of the Seller Property Information Statement
- Law of Attachment: Chattels and Fixtures
- Surveys, Boundaries and Adverse Possession
- The Agreement of Purchase and Sale: a Detailed Analysis
- Disclosure Law Cases
- Agency Law
- Tort Law
- Estate and Succession Planning
- Family Law and the Matrimonial Home
- Purchase and Sale of a Business under the Bulk Sales Act
- Risk Management for Real Estate Professionals
- Ontario Court System and Litigation Process
The programs will start perhaps the second week of September. Each Program will be 3 hours in duration.
Accreditation: If you are interested, and take a sufficient number of courses, then you would qualify for the “Accredited Elite Advocate” designation from the HarvardNorth Real Estate Academy, which can be reduced to its initials “AEA” for your convenience. You will have to write an exam.
One little reminder, it’s open to everyone from every brokerage and every board. No recruiting etc. Bring plenty of business cards, everyone will have an opportunity to stand up and introduce themselves at each seminar before we get rolling. I will add a "haves and wants" segment as well. You might get some business out of it. You already know that works other environments. This will have smaller numbers. My preference is workshop, rather than lecture format. It’s adult education which works best if adults participate and can contribute from their experiences.
TRY OUT the first course for FREE and if you like it, enrol for some of the others. If you’re looking for a designation, then book a seating for the exam.
Let me know if you would be interested? Any feedback and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
